Healthy Chocolate Chip Cookies & a Giveaway
Today I have a recipe for probably the most searched for, baked and relished food item - chocolate chip cookie. I have yet to come across a person who doesn’t like it.
This version has a lot of ingredients that are good for your health. It has oats, flax seed, dark chocolate and brown sugar…and it tastes so good. Pair it with a glass of cold milk or tea/coffee and it turns into a perfect snack for anytime.
Once you have the basic cookie - you can do many variations like smear some chocolate sauce or nutella on it, sandwich a warmed up marshmallow between two cookies or sandwich a scoop of dark chocolate ice cream in between…yum!
These cookies are towards the softer side and are very moist because of the oats and sour cream.
Now for the GIVEAWAY: This giveaway is open to U.S.A residents only.
I was recently contacted by a representative from SlimKicker to partner with them to promote their healthy living app and blog through a giveaway challenge for all my readers. I thought this would be a great idea to thank my readers for their support and keeping me going!!! So, here’s what this is all about:
SlimKicker is a FREE health and fitness related web application that helps one monitor their dietary and physical activity goals in an exciting gaming environment. The app is designed as a “level-up” system where you move onto higher levels by earning points for tracking healthy calories with the designed calorie counter, logging your workouts, and completing challenges. As you level up, you get to participate in giveaway challenges and win special prizes. They also have recipes for many diets as well. I think it’s a very creative way of keeping yourself motivated to stick to your health related goals.
So, what do you have to do win the giveaway? SlimKicker would like to hear your suggestions for new health challenges for the app! For example, some of the recent challenges set included:
- Delaying your cravings for 14 days
- Avoiding packaged food for 7 days
Now, all you have to do is just leave a comment on this post with your suggestion on a fun, creative fitness or diet challenge. It should just be 1-2 sentences. The SlimKicker staff will pick their favorite idea and announce the winner after a week. GOOD LUCK!
Serving - makes about 24 cookies
cooking time 30 min
Things you will need:
1 cup whole oats
1 cup all purpose flour
1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
1 cup brown sugar
2 tbs flax seed, ground
1/4 cup butter, room temperature
1/4 cup sour cream
1 large egg
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla extract
Preheat the oven to 350F. In a large bowl add all the dry ingredients and mix well. In another bowl roughly beat the egg with a whisk or a fork and add the sour cream, butter and vanilla. Mix till it tuns into a smooth mixture. Add the wet ingredients into the dry mixture and mix till its all incorporated together. At first it will look a little dry, but it will come together as you keep on mixing it.
On a greased baking sheet drop tablespoonfuls of dough, 2 inches apart and bake for 10 to 12 minutes. Cool completely on a rack before serving.

How about this: add 2 different fruits and/or vegetables per meal for 14 days? Ideally locally grown ;)
And the cookies look delicious!!

GAH! That sandwich looks amazing. Hmm…No soda for 10 days, or no fast food for 10 days. Those are my biggest weaknesses (Poisons!) i love the level up idea, Nike I think has an app like that, but I like being able to pick your own challenge, not the challenge they give you.

Let’s see….. A good giveaway idea would be to do 1 spontaneous physical activity everyday, whether it’s getting off 1 station early to work, or taking a walk after lunch, or just playing with the kids.

I think that because healthy eating isn’t the only important component of a healthy lifestyle, a beneficial SlimKick challenge should be focused on exercise, such as walking half a mile each day for 7 days. Next week, the challenge could increase to one mile every day for 7 days, and so on, in order to cater to the app user’s health improvements from week to week! (P.S. these cookies look delicious!)

These look fabulous, especially with the nutella. I always have lots of oats around, for granola making, etc., so I’ll have to make these cookies soon! My suggestion for SlimKick is kick the soda habit for 6 weeks, which research shows to be the optimal time to start a new habit.
